At the conclusion of next month I will have served three years as the President
of the Boca Raton Computer Society. Along life’s way I learned that
“To every thing there is a season and a time for every purpose . . .”
So it is with being the President of BRCS. The time has come for the Board
of Directors to select a new President who will continue to lead and develop
BRCS into a continued force as a major Computer User Group. However, I will
remain a member of the Board of Directors as well as continue conducting my
pre-meeting SIG.
The last three years has been quite rewarding for me. I have been part of a series of major changes in our organization. We have seen our internet service terminated and with it have lost those members who were only interested in obtaining a cheap ISP. We have expanded some of our SIGs and have increased our attendance at both SIGs and our general membership meetings. We have discovered in this era of software developers’ lack of support our best presentations come from within our own ranks. We have attempted to demonstrate that the technology we all enjoy should include presentations not only on the technical aspects and software applications but on the every day uses that make our lives easier and more enjoyable – banking, crimes against our children and grandchildren, voice over internet protocol, etc.
We have a totally different Board than we had one year ago. We added a new Treasurer, Sherman Potter, and thank him for his volunteerism and the skill and enthusiasm he will bring to BRCS. We have also added our Editor of Boca Bits, Steve Costello, to the Board. He too is a welcome addition who has done an outstanding job since taking over Boca Bits a while back. Jerry Naditch joined us, became our Vice President and assistant Webmaster, and has been a great help in helping us reform many of our behind the scenes problems.
Our December meeting is our annual meeting where we will nominate and elect our Board of Directors for a one year term. All of the present Directors are standing for re-election except Dr. Charles Bender. As we will have an opening for a director, nominations will be taken from the floor. As a Board we are endorsing Dick Brenner who presently serves as our membership coordinator. Dick also maintains our data base as part of his duties.
Charlie’s commitments are forcing him to leave us as a Board member as well as our Program Chairperson. Charlie, we thank you for all you have done and contributed to our association.
I would be remiss if I did not thank Jerry Rutstein who has served many years on our Board of Directors. Jerry has also left our Board but will continue to be an active member of BRCS. His service has been essential to our smooth operation in such areas as advertising and getting Boca Bits out.
I look forward to meeting and greeting you at our December meeting and guarantee
that our speaker for the evening, Ed Ostrowski, will be exceptional.
